About us

As Wirral’s largest employer, Wirral University Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is the thriving heart of the local community. Comprising Wirral’s only Emergency Department, it is one of the biggest and busiest acute NHS Trusts in the North West.

We operate from two main sites, Arrowe Park Hospital and Clatterbridge Hospital, while also providing a range of services in community sites. Our hospitals are friendly, supportive environments for patients and staff alike. Strong team work, a helpful attitude and great cooperation are what enable us to deliver the best care to our patients.

We employ over 6,000 staff who serve a population of approximately 400,000 people across Wirral and the wider North-West area. We have approximately 855 beds trust-wide with a financial turnover of approximately £337m.

Our aim is to deliver the highest quality care for every patient. As a teaching hospital we are renowned as a leader in the region for high quality education and training for a wide range of staff including doctors, nurses and other clinicians. We are proud of our teaching hospital status and we work closely with the University of Liverpool, University of Chester and Liverpool John Moores University to ensure staff and services reflect the very best clinical practice available.

Diversity and Inclusion

Our vision is to create an environment for patients and staff where people feel respected, valued and treated with dignity, with better health outcomes for all. We aim to create an inclusive and welcoming environment, where everyone feels a sense of belonging and the diversity of our staff is supported and celebrated. We are committed to ensuring that we are an understanding, kind and inclusive organisation where there is diversity amongst our people and they feel a strong sense of belonging and inclusion.

To make the best possible decisions, every Board needs diverse, inclusive and compassionate leadership. Boards made up of people with a mix of experience and skills gained from a range of backgrounds and lived experience bring fresh ideas, greater challenge and more robust decision making.

We are interested in hearing from people from a range of backgrounds who understand the needs and priorities of their local communities and can hold the confidence of patients and the public. As they are under-represented in chair and non-executive roles, we particularly welcome approaches from women, people from Black, Asian and minority ethnic communities and those with disabilities or long-term health conditions.

Our Vision is:

Underpinning our vision are our Values
